Ph.D. in Education

Joint Doctoral Program with Claremont Graduate University

The joint doctoral program in Education (JDP), a collaboration between San Diego State University’s College of Education and Claremont Graduate University’s School of Educational Studies, is planning to sunset. This follows several years of having paused the admission of new students, as both institutions evaluated the financial and tuition model supporting the program.

This JDP brought together different but complementary strengths in our region to create a unique, top-notch doctoral experience for many years. Both partner institutions maintain strong reputations for interdisciplinary and community-engaged scholarship, and the program worked to prepare leaders who could understand complex educational problems, advance theoretical frameworks, and use research to improve institutions and communities.  Since the program’s founding nearly 48 years ago, nearly 300 students have earned doctorates and gone on to make significant contributions to the profession in numerous ways.
